Terms of Service

Effective Date: April 27, 2026
Last updated: October 6, 2026

1. Introduction and Acceptance of Terms

Welcome to BattleGrounds, an AI-powered cybersecurity training platform operated by Infophreak ("Infophreak," "we," "us," or "our"). By accessing or using BattleGrounds at https://ctf.infophreak.com (or any successor domain, including infophreak.com) (collectively, the "Platform"), you ("User" or "you") agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms").

Please read these Terms carefully before creating an account or using any feature of the Platform. If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not access or use the Platform.

By creating an account, accessing the Platform, or otherwise using any portion of BattleGrounds, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms, including the binding arbitration provision and class action waiver set forth in Section 15.

2. Eligibility

To use BattleGrounds, you must meet the following eligibility requirements:

By creating an account, you represent and warrant that you meet all of the above eligibility requirements. If Infophreak discovers that a user does not meet these requirements, we reserve the right to immediately suspend or permanently terminate that user's account.

3. Account Registration and Security

To access core features of BattleGrounds, you must register for an account. You may register using an email address and password, or via supported OAuth providers including Google, GitHub, GitLab, and X (formerly Twitter). By using an OAuth provider, you authorize Infophreak to receive and store certain profile information from that provider as permitted by your settings on the respective platform.

When registering, you agree to:

You are solely responsible for all activity that occurs under your account, whether or not you authorized it. Infophreak will not be liable for any loss or damage resulting from unauthorized access to your account that arises from your failure to safeguard your credentials.

4. The BattleGrounds Platform, Credits and Pro

BattleGrounds is a cybersecurity education platform. The Platform offers:

Credits. Credits are earned by playing (for example from quiz scores, solves, daily rewards and multiplayer wagers) and are spent on optional bonus quizzes and wagers. Credits cannot be purchased, have no monetary value, are non-transferable, are non-refundable, and cannot be exchanged for cash or any other consideration. Pro does not include credits. Infophreak may change how credits are earned or spent at any time.

Pro Subscription

What Pro includes. BattleGrounds is free to use. The optional Pro subscription adds features described on the Pro page, such as a larger daily allowance of AI quizzes (subject to a fair-use limit), exam mode, and medium and hard challenges. Infophreak may change the features included in Pro; if a change materially reduces what you pay for, we will tell you in advance and you may cancel.

Billing. Pro is sold through our reseller and merchant of record, Paddle (Paddle.com Market Limited), which processes your payment, handles taxes and issues your receipts. Your purchase is also subject to Paddle's Buyer Terms. Pro is billed in advance at the price and interval shown at checkout (including any applicable taxes) and renews automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel. We will give you notice before any price change takes effect for your subscription.

Cancelling. You can cancel at any time from the Pro page (Manage subscription) or through Paddle. When you cancel, your subscription will not renew, and you keep Pro until the end of the billing period you have already paid for. After that your account returns to the free plan; your progress, XP and solves are kept.

Refunds. If you are not satisfied with Pro, you can request a full refund of your first Pro payment within 7 days of that payment. Renewal payments, and first payments after the 7-day window, are not refunded, including for partially used billing periods; cancel before your next renewal date to avoid being charged again. To request a refund, contact Paddle through the link in your receipt email or email team@infophreak.com. Refunds are paid by Paddle to your original payment method, and Pro ends when the refund is issued. Nothing in these Terms limits any refund or withdrawal rights you have under the law where you live.

Failed payments. If a renewal payment fails, Paddle may retry it. If it still cannot be collected, Pro ends and your account returns to the free plan.

5. Acceptable Use Policy

You agree to use BattleGrounds only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. The following conduct is expressly prohibited:

Infophreak reserves the right to investigate suspected violations and, at its sole discretion, to take any action it deems appropriate, including issuing warnings, suspending or terminating accounts, removing content, and cooperating with law enforcement authorities.

Community Rules and Player Content

BattleGrounds lets players follow and friend each other, comment on profiles, post in discussions and send direct messages. Anything you write is "Player Content". You keep ownership of your Player Content and give Infophreak a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store and display it on the Platform for as long as it is there. When you post Player Content, you agree that it will not:

Reporting and moderation. You can report any profile or piece of Player Content with the Report button, or by emailing team@infophreak.com with a link to it and the reason. Our team reviews reports and may remove content, restrict an account from posting or contacting other players for a period of time, or suspend or terminate it. We act on reports in good faith and as quickly as we reasonably can. If we remove your content or restrict your account, you can ask us to look at the decision again by emailing team@infophreak.com. You can also block or mute any player at any time.

Safety. Direct messages and comments are not end-to-end encrypted; our team may review reported content to keep the community safe. Links posted by players are not checked by us; BattleGrounds shows a warning before you leave the site. Never share your password, two-factor codes or payment details with another player: Infophreak staff will never ask for them.

6. AI-Generated Content Disclaimer

Quiz questions, answers, explanations, and all other content generated during BattleGrounds sessions are produced by large language models (LLMs) via third-party AI APIs. This AI-generated content is intended solely for educational and entertainment purposes within the context of informal cybersecurity training.

Important limitations you should understand:

By using BattleGrounds, you acknowledge and accept these limitations. Infophreak expressly disclaims all liability for any decisions made or actions taken in reliance on AI-generated content produced by the Platform.

7. Intellectual Property

Infophreak's Intellectual Property. The Platform, including but not limited to its software, source code, design, user interface, logos, trademarks, service marks, branding, and all non-user-generated content (including AI-generated quiz content delivered through the Platform), are owned by or licensed to Infophreak and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Platform for personal, non-commercial purposes in accordance with these Terms. No other rights are granted.

Restrictions. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, lease, sublicense, reverse engineer, or create derivative works from any part of the Platform without Infophreak's prior written consent.

User-Submitted Content. If you submit, post, or transmit any content to the Platform (including usernames, profile information, or any in-platform communications) ("User Content"), you retain any ownership rights you may hold in that content. By submitting User Content, you grant Infophreak a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable, and transferable license to use, display, reproduce, distribute, modify, and incorporate that User Content in connection with operating and improving the Platform. You represent and warrant that you have the right to grant this license and that your User Content does not infringe the rights of any third party.

Feedback. Any feedback, suggestions, or ideas you provide to Infophreak regarding the Platform may be used by Infophreak without any obligation to compensate you.

8. User Data and Privacy

By creating an account, you consent to the collection, storage, and use of the following data in connection with the operation of the Platform:

Infophreak uses Supabase for database storage and authentication, Vercel for hosting, Resend for transactional email delivery, and OpenRouter for AI/LLM-powered quiz generation. Your data may be processed by these third-party service providers in connection with the operation of the Platform. Infophreak is not responsible for the data practices of these third-party providers; you are encouraged to review their respective privacy policies.

Account Deletion. You may delete your account at any time through the account settings page. Account deletion is permanent and irreversible. Upon deletion, your personal data, quiz history, credits, XP, and all associated account information will be permanently removed from Infophreak's active systems. Residual copies may persist in backups for a limited period before being purged in the ordinary course of operations.

Infophreak's full Privacy Policy, when published, will govern the collection and use of your personal data and is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

9. Third-Party Services

BattleGrounds integrates with or relies upon the following third-party services:

Your use of the Platform may be subject to the terms of service and privacy policies of these third-party providers. Infophreak does not control these third parties and is not responsible for their practices, outages, data breaches, or changes to their terms. Any disruption to a third-party service may affect the availability or functionality of BattleGrounds, and Infophreak shall have no liability for such disruptions.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE PLATFORM IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, INFOPHREAK EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

No advice, information, or content obtained from Infophreak or through the Platform shall create any warranty not expressly stated in these Terms. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so some of the above exclusions may not apply to you.

11. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, INFOPHREAK AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, CONTRACTORS, AND LICENSORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, PUNITIVE, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF GOODWILL, SERVICE INTERRUPTION, COMPUTER DAMAGE, OR THE COST OF SUBSTITUTE SERVICES, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THESE TERMS OR THE USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE PLATFORM, EVEN IF INFOPHREAK HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

IN NO EVENT SHALL INFOPHREAK'S TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OR THE PLATFORM EXCEED THE TOTAL AMOUNT YOU HAVE PAID TO INFOPHREAK IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM. IF YOU HAVE NOT MADE ANY PAYMENTS TO INFOPHREAK DURING THAT PERIOD, INFOPHREAK'S MAXIMUM LIABILITY TO YOU SHALL BE ZERO DOLLARS (USD $0.00).

Some jurisdictions do not allow the limitation of liability for certain damages. In such jurisdictions, Infophreak's liability shall be limited to the greatest extent permitted by applicable law.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Infophreak and its officers, directors, employees, agents, contractors, and licensors from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or in connection with:

Infophreak reserves the right to assume exclusive control of any matter subject to indemnification by you, in which case you agree to cooperate with Infophreak in asserting available defenses.

13. Account Suspension and Termination

Termination by Infophreak. Infophreak reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to suspend, restrict, or permanently terminate your account and access to the Platform at any time, with or without notice, for any reason, including but not limited to a violation of these Terms, suspected fraudulent or abusive activity, or if Infophreak determines that continued access poses a risk to the Platform or other users.

Effect of Termination. Upon termination of your account for any reason:

Termination by You. You may delete your own account at any time through the account settings. As stated in Section 8, account deletion is permanent and irreversible. If you delete your account, you will lose all associated data, credits, and progress, and such information cannot be recovered.

14. Time Limitation on Claims

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, any claim or cause of action arising out of or related to these Terms or your use of the Platform must be filed within one (1) year after the event giving rise to such claim or cause of action first arose. Claims not filed within this period shall be permanently barred. This limitation applies regardless of any statute or law to the contrary.

15. Dispute Resolution and Arbitration

Informal Resolution. Before initiating any formal legal proceeding, you agree to first contact Infophreak at team@infophreak.com and provide a written description of the dispute, the relief sought, and your contact information. The parties agree to use good-faith efforts to resolve the dispute informally for a period of at least thirty (30) days from the date Infophreak receives your written notice.

Binding Arbitration. If the dispute is not resolved through informal negotiation within 30 days, you and Infophreak agree that any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Platform (including claims regarding their validity, applicability, or breach) shall be resolved exclusively through binding individual arbitration, rather than in court. This arbitration agreement applies only to users who are 18 years of age or older. Arbitration shall be administered by a recognized arbitration provider (such as the American Arbitration Association or JAMS) under its applicable commercial arbitration rules. The arbitration shall be conducted in the District of Columbia, or remotely if mutually agreed. The arbitrator's decision shall be final and binding and may be entered as a judgment in any court of competent jurisdiction.

Class Action Waiver. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, YOU AND INFOPHREAK AGREE THAT EACH PARTY MAY BRING CLAIMS AGAINST THE OTHER ONLY IN AN INDIVIDUAL CAPACITY AND NOT AS A PLAINTIFF OR CLASS MEMBER IN ANY PURPORTED CLASS, CONSOLIDATED, OR REPRESENTATIVE ACTION. If this waiver is found to be unenforceable with respect to a particular claim, that claim shall be severed from arbitration and litigated in court, while all remaining claims proceed in arbitration.

Governing Law. These Terms and any disputes arising hereunder shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the District of Columbia, without regard to its conflict of laws principles. For any dispute not subject to arbitration, you and Infophreak consent to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in the District of Columbia.

Exceptions. Nothing in this Section prevents either party from seeking emergency injunctive or other equitable relief in a court of competent jurisdiction to prevent irreparable harm pending arbitration. Claims involving intellectual property infringement are also excluded from mandatory arbitration.

16. Modifications to the Platform and Terms

Changes to the Platform. Infophreak reserves the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any feature, functionality, or aspect of the Platform at any time, with or without notice. This includes changes to the credit system, quiz topics, leaderboard mechanics, and available OAuth providers. Infophreak shall not be liable to you for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the Platform.

Changes to These Terms. Infophreak may update or revise these Terms at any time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this document and, where practicable, provide notice through the Platform or via the email address associated with your account. Your continued use of the Platform after the effective date of any updated Terms constitutes your acceptance of those changes. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you must stop using the Platform and delete your account.

17. Severability and Waiver

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable by a court or arbitrator of competent jurisdiction, that provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, or severed if modification is not possible, and the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect. No waiver by Infophreak of any breach or default shall constitute a waiver of any subsequent breach or default or of the provision itself.

18. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with any additional policies or agreements referenced herein (including Infophreak's Privacy Policy, when published), constitute the entire agreement between you and Infophreak with respect to the Platform and supersede all prior and contemporaneous understandings, agreements, representations, and warranties, whether written or oral, regarding the subject matter hereof.

19. Contact Information

If you have any questions, concerns, or requests regarding these Terms or the Platform, please contact us:

We will endeavor to respond to all inquiries within a reasonable time. For account-related issues or disputes, we encourage you to use the informal resolution process described in Section 15 before pursuing formal remedies.
